Different Treatment Techniques for Barrett’s EsophagusApril 13, 2019
Endoscopy is basically used for determining whether you have BARRETT’S ESOPHAGUS or not. In this process, a lighted tube or endoscope is passed down your throat to check the signs of changing esophagus tissue. Basically, normal esophagus tissue appears pale and glossy.
The doctor can specialize in examining the tissues determines the degree of dysplasia in your esophagus cells. There has some screening process of this BARRETT’S ESOPHAGUS which is also known as BARRETT’S ESOPHAGUS new treatments.
According to this process, this screening process may be recommended for men who have had GRD symptoms from last weekly that don’t respond to treatment with proton pump inhibitor medication and they have some risks included
- Being over 50
- Having a lot abdominal fat
- Being white
- Having the family history of this BARRETT’S ESOPHAGUS.
Now the question is that what should be the proper treatment procedures of this BARRETT’S ESOPHAGUS. There are three types of treatment procedures like-
- NO DYSPLASIA
- LOW GRADE DYSPLASIA
- HIGH-GRADE DYSPLASIA
NO DYSPLASIA- In this process, if your biopsies show no dysplasia, then you need to follow up endoscopy and then every three years if no changes occur. Apart from this, there has one GERD treatment process which has some special appeal of its own. Treating GERD doesn’t treat the underlying BARRETT’S ESOPHAGUS and likely don’t decrease the risk of esophageal cancer. But it can help to make it easier to detect dysplasia.
LOW-GRADE DYSPLASIA- Only best pathologist can do this low-grade dysplasia that has more than eight to ten years of experience in this field. They will recommend you for another endoscopy within six months with the additional follow up of every six to twelve months. Here the endoscopic resection process is followed in which pathologist use an endoscope to remove the damaged cells. Besides these, there is another one named as radiofrequency ablation which uses heat to remove abnormal esophagus tissue and this process is recommended after this endoscopic resection.
HIGH-GRADE DYSPLASIA- This process is generally thought to be a precursor to esophageal cancer. That is the reason behind; the doctor may recommend endoscopic reaction of radiofrequency ablation. There are some processes of this treatment like-
- CRYOTHERAPY- This uses an endoscope to apply a cold liquid or gas to abnormal cells in the esophagus. By this process, the cells are allowed to warm up and then frozen again. The cycle of freezing and thawing damages the abnormal cells.
- PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY- It destroys abnormal cells by making them sensitive to light.
- SURGERY- This is a process by which the damaged part of your esophagus is removed and the remaining portion is attached to your stomach.
These are the basic procedures which are followed for the treatment. This treatment is known as BARRETT’S ESOPHAGUS new treatments. Nowadays lots of new instruments have invented by which this treatment can be done and become easier rather than earlier.
